Meet Dr. Laing
About Dr. Laing
Dr. Laing has practiced dermatology and MOHS surgery since 1993. She is an expert in the diagnosis and management of skin cancer. She is excited to be a part of the Knightdale community and looks forward to continuing to serve the residents of North Carolina.
A native of Philadelphia, Dr. Laing attended Harriton High, where she ran cross country and rowed crew. After college she pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a physician and matriculated at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Go Gators. There she found her love of surgery and dermatology, was elected to the AOA Medical Honor Society, and graduated in the top 15% of her class. Dermatology Residency at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill brought her to North Carolina, and except for a fellowship in Louisville, she has never left.
Dr. Laing undertook an intensive one year fellowship training in MOHS Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology at University Associates in Dermatology in Louisville, KY with Dr. Mike McCall. Dr. McCall had the honor of training under the venerable Dr. Fred Mohs himself. During fellowship Dr. Laing was recruited to East Carolina University to start a MOHS Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery section. She started this unit in 1993 bringing MOHS surgery to the people Downeast. For many years she was the only MOHS surgeon in this growing and underserved region of North Carolina. Dr. Laing is proud to have served and lived in eastern North Carolina for 15 years and values immensely the integrity and determination of the patients she has had the privilege to know. Dr. Laing and her husband and two teenage daughters recently moved to downtown Raleigh, where they are excited to be a part of the downtown revival. In her free time she enjoys travelling, eating out, and learning how to sail the family’s new Catalina sailboat “Sunburn” in anticipation of sailing around the world one day.
